Detailed Itinerary
Arrive in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province and the starting point of your Southeast Yunnan journey. Known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” Kunming enjoys a mild climate throughout the year and serves as a cultural meeting point between different ethnic groups in Southwest China.
After arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, take a gentle walk around the city to experience modern Kunming life and prepare for the journey ahead.
Kunming has a long history of Muslim communities, especially among the Hui people. Muslim travelers can find halal restaurants and mosques in the city, making it a convenient starting point for a halal-friendly Yunnan tour.
After breakfast, travel to the famous Stone Forest, one of Yunnan’s most impressive natural wonders. The UNESCO World Heritage site features dramatic limestone formations shaped by millions of years of geological changes.
Walking through the stone peaks, narrow paths, and unique rock landscapes, visitors can learn about the geological history of the region and the legends of the local Sani Yi people.
Continue to Jianshui, an ancient town with more than 1,200 years of history. Visit Jianshui Ancient Town and explore its traditional architecture, old streets, and local atmosphere. The town is also known for its strong Confucian cultural heritage and historic role as an education center.
Begin the day with a visit to Tuanshan Village, a well-preserved traditional village famous for its Qing Dynasty-style houses. The village provides a glimpse into historic rural life in southern Yunnan, with stone courtyards, wooden carvings, and narrow lanes remaining largely unchanged.
Continue to Yuanyang, home of the spectacular Hani Rice Terraces. The journey gradually moves into the mountains, offering beautiful views of valleys, forests, and traditional villages.
The Hani people have cultivated these terraces for generations, creating a unique agricultural landscape that combines human knowledge with the natural environment. The terraces are especially impressive because they change appearance throughout the year with different farming activities and sunlight conditions.
Arrive in Yuanyang and enjoy the peaceful mountain scenery.
Spend a full day exploring the famous Yuanyang Rice Terraces, one of southeast Yunnan’s most iconic landscapes.
Visit Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces, where thousands of terraces stretch across the mountain slopes. The terraces represent the traditional wisdom of the Hani people, who developed an ecological farming system using mountain forests, water sources, and farmland.
Then we'll explore local Hani villages to experience traditional architecture and learn about their unique lifestyle. The villages are built according to the mountain environment, with distinctive mushroom-shaped houses and strong community traditions.
The sunrise and sunset views over the terraces are highlights of the area. The changing light creates different colors and reflections on the water-filled fields, making it one of the most beautiful rural landscapes in China.
Travel from Yuanyang to Mengzi, an important city in southern Yunnan known for its multicultural history and connection with the old Yunnan–Vietnam railway.
Visit Bisezhai Railway Station, a historic railway station built during the French colonial period. The station represents the development of early transportation links between Yunnan and Southeast Asia and shows the international connections of this border region.
Continue to Mile, a modern city surrounded by mountains and vineyards. Mile combines natural scenery with local ethnic culture and provides a relaxing stop between southern Yunnan’s historical towns and natural attractions.
Enjoy the slower pace of life in this mountain city before returning to Kunming.
Travel to Puzhehei Scenic Area, one of Southeast Yunnan’s most beautiful natural destinations.
Puzhehei is famous for its karst mountains, clear lakes, lotus ponds, and traditional villages. The landscape is often compared to a smaller version of Guilin because of its combination of limestone peaks and waterways.
Take a boat ride through the lake area and enjoy views of green mountains, wetlands, and rural scenery. During summer, lotus flowers cover large areas of the wetlands, creating one of Yunnan’s most beautiful seasonal landscapes.
The area is also home to the Yi people, allowing visitors to learn about local traditions and ethnic culture.
After breakfast, we'll enjoy a relaxed morning in Puzhehei before returning to Kunming.
On the way back, admire the changing landscapes of Southeast Yunnan, from mountain villages and farmland to the modern city environment of Kunming.
After arriving in Kunming, visit the Muslim community area and experience the city’s diverse cultural atmosphere. A Halal lunch will be arranged in Kunming. Kunming has been an important meeting point between different cultures for centuries due to its location along historic trade routes.
After breakfast, transfer to Kunming airport or train station for your onward journey.
Your Southeast Yunnan Muslim-friendly tour ends today, leaving you with memories of ancient towns, ethnic cultures, mountain landscapes, and the unique traditions of southern Yunnan.
